As an EVMS MD Alum, you recognize the importance of scholarships for medical students. The EVMS MD Alumni Association is leading an effort to raise funds to support future students as they follow in our footsteps. We hope that you see the value of investing in these students as much as we do.

Lexie shared, “It is an honor to have been selected; I am very proud to a part of EVMS. The relationship between Alumni and current students is important and promotes unity in our community and offers opportunities for guidance, mentorships and networking”.
We believe in giving back. The EVMS MD Alumni Scholarship, created in 2011, recognizes a student whose actions, beliefs, and passions reflect those of our alumni. Our goal is to select students that demonstrate academic excellence and have improved the community through extracurricular pursuits and social outreach. The EVMS MD Alumni Scholarship encourages students to connect with EVMS alumni and demonstrates to current EVMS students that alumni are available for support during and after medical school through mentorship and networking. It is our way of welcoming prospective and current students into the EVMS alumni family.
The MD Alumni Scholarship is a merit based award providing one (1) rising second year EVMS medical student with tuition assistance. Scholarship applicants are required to show proven record of community service and leadership as defined by the EVMS MD Alumni Board. In addition, applicants must write a short essay about why they should be selected and must also obtain two letters of reference.
Maria Urbano, MD ’83, Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at EVMS and an EVMS Alumni notes, “A high level of debt causes new graduates to go into lucrative specialties, instead of where the need is the greatest: psychiatry, pediatrics, primary care, and internal medicine.” She adds “I want students to graduate from medical school and go on to residency without worrying about how long they will wait to be reimbursed. The EVMS Alumni MD Scholarship can help alleviate this burden.”
