Spotlight on EVMS H. P. Alumni: KURT HEISLER

Kurt Heisler graduated from the M.A.T. program in 1999 and the M.P.H. program in 2001 with a concentration in Health Management and Policy. He is currently an Instructor in the EVMS Department of Pediatrics where he conducts research related to child abuse and neglect, with a particular focus on studying how caseworkers are using information technology to improve productivity and performance. He is currently working on a Ph.D. in Health Services Research from Old Dominion University, and a certificate degree in Health Informatics from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Department of Biomedical and Health Information Sciences.

Mr. Heisler serves on Virginia’s Child Abuse Prevention Committee which works under the auspices the Governor’s Advisory Board on Child Abuse and Neglect. He is a student reviewer for the journal Child Maltreatment, and Vice Chair of the Graduate Program in Public Health Advisory Committee at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He also serves as the academic adviser to the Family Services Technology Council, a public-private partnership dedicated to identifying best practices for the use of technology in child welfare.

A Certified Microsoft Access Specialist, Mr. Heisler also provides consultation and training on database development and data management for clinicians and researchers.
